Photo Description:
030915-N-2970T-001Philippine Sea (Sept. 15, 2003) -- A Landing Craft-Utility (LCU) transports Marines and equipment of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) from the well deck of the amphibious assault ship USS Essex (LHD 2) to the shore at Subic Bay, Philippines during an Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) exercise. The Amphibious Specialty Training Team from Naval Beach Group One was on board to train and observe Essex crewmembers work with different types of landing craft in the ship's well deck. The semi-annual exercise provides familiarization training and prepares both services to act as a cohesive unit. U.S. Navy photo by Photographers Mate Airman Marvin E. Thompson Jr. (RELEASED)
