050121-N-2653P-011Indian Ocean (Jan. 21, 2005) Ð A member of the Navy Oceanographic Office International Survey Team, prepares to deploy a side-scan sonar device to bottom map the coastline near Banda Aceh on the island of Sumatra, Indonesia. The combined civilian-Navy survey team was deployed to the guided missile destroyer USS Benfold (DDG 65) to facilitate their personnel and equipment after they were tasked to survey the Tsunami-affected area for safe navigation. Benfold is assigned to the USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) Carrier Strike Group, currently operating in the Indian Ocean off the waters of Indonesia and Thailand in support of Operation Unified Assistance.
