Photo Description:
040320-N-6213R-444 Pacific Ocean (Mar. 20, 2004) - An Aviation Ordnanceman moves a pallet of BLU-111 500 lb. bombs through the hangar deck of USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74) during a vertical replenishment (VERTREP) at sea with the fast combat support ship USS Sacramento (AOE 1). The BLU series bombs are an improved version of the older Mk. 82, 83, and 84 series bombs. BLU series bombs use a more stable explosive and are less sensitive to explosion. Stennis spent over nine hours alongside the replenishment oiler USS Sacramento (AOE 1) transferring over 900 pallets of ordnance and supplies. U.S. Navy photo by Photographer's Mate Third Class Mark J. Rebilas. (RELEASED)
