020802-N-8894M-001 Pacific Ocean (Aug. 2, 2002) -- An MH-60S ÒKnighthawkÓ multi-mission helicopter from the ÒPackratsÓ of Helicopter Combat Support Squadron Three (HC-3), makes an approach to the experimental high-speed vessel ÒJoint VentureÓ (HSV-X1) during operations off the southern California coast. The Knighthawk is a newly designed helicopter for the Navy which uses the Black Hawk airframe to provide a larger cabin area for cargo and passenger transport, while keeping the automatic rotor blade folding system and rapid folding tail pylon for ship board operations. Joint Venture is participating in Fleet Battle Experiment Juliet (FBE-J) as part of operations supporting Millennium Challenge 2002 (MC-02). MC-02 is the nation's premier joint integrating event, bringing together both live field exercises and computer simulations throughout the Department of Defense.
