051021-N-6278K-012Newport News, Va. (October 21, 2005) Ð Commanding Officer, USS George Washington (CVN 73), Capt. Garry R. White oversees his Sailors cleaning up Huntington Park during one of the ships "Make a Difference Day" community relations (COMREL) projects. More than 600 George Washington Sailors participated in COMREL projects throughout the city of Newport News, culminating in the record for most volunteer hours for an individual Navy command in one year. Since the ships arrival to Northrop Grumman Newport News shipyard, the ship has contributed over 21,000 hours of community service to the Hampton Roads area.
