Photo Description:
040930-N-4397B-008Naval Station Pascagoula, Miss. (Sept. 30, 2004) - Crew members assigned to the guided missile cruiser USS Ticonderoga (CG 47), man the rails one final time, awaiting the order to disembark the ship as she is decommissioned after 22 years of exemplary service to her country. Ticonderoga's decommissioning ceremony was held at her homeport, Naval Station Pascagoula, in front of a crowd of almost 800, many of who were former plank owners and crew members. The guided missile cruiser was the fifth ship to bear the name Ticonderoga. The ship will be towed to the Inactive Ships Maintenance Facility in Philadelphia, Pa., where a final decision on the eventual disposition of the ship will be made.
