030422-N-3228G-009Pearl Harbor, Hawaii -- (Apr. 22, 2003) -- Nearly 500 Hawaii-based Sailors removed debris harmful to sea life and the environment along the shoreline of Ford Island, during events held in observance of Earth Day 2003. Assorted debris washed ashore included fishing line, buoys, tires, bottles, to name a few. Earth Day has been celebrated each year since 1970 and is part of an international network of 5,000 groups in 184 countries working for protection of the environment.
