PORTLAND PHOTOGRAPHY CD-ROMS AVAILABLE FOR CREATIVE PROFESSIONALS
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (March 29, 2007) – Turbo Photo (www.turbophoto.com), a Portland-based stock photography business, announces three new stock photo CD-ROMs, specifically for Portland-area designers and creative professionals.
The first CD, entitled, “Portland, Oregon”, contains 50 high resolution stock photos of various Portland buildings, scenes, and landmarks. The second CD, “Oregon Beauty”, contains some of Oregon’s most beautiful nature scenes, including Portland and beyond. The third CD, “Oregon Waterfalls”, contains shots of various waterfalls in Oregon, many from the nearby Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area.
The stock photos may be used in a variety of ways in advertising and marketing materials. According to Trent Mueller, founder of Turbo Photo, customers use stock photos for ads, direct mail, newsletters, flyers, posters, web pages, multimedia, videos, book covers, and even items for sale in gift shops that use photos, such as cards, calendars and mugs. “It’s a great resource for entrepreneurs,” said Mueller. His clients have used photos for alternative projects including embossing the images on metal plates as art and using the images for props in network television. “Clients from ABC and NBC have previously used our photos as backgrounds for videos and stage props.”
Trent Mueller started Turbo Photo in 2002 as an experiment in photography sales on Ebay. He lived in Bend, Ore. to pursue the business, but later decided to move to Portland in 2005. “The Portland area has the best resources and support for small startup businesses in Oregon. Resources such as the SCORE and the SBDC are helpful. Portland also has the most technical resources for contract work, which are easy to recruit online through Craigslist. Conducting business close to the PDX airport also has its advantages for easier business travel and faster shipping of products. Shipping from many other places in the state, such as Bend, adds a day to the shipping time, because most all outbound packages are first routed through Portland anyway,” said Mueller.
Stock photos are images taken in advance of being needed. They are ‘stocked’ and intended to be used at a later time. The stock photo CDs are similar to clip art CDs, but containing a much higher image quality. The quality, or resolution, is suitable for printing at 300 dots per inch on a professional printing press- the standard at which most magazines are printed.
Most of the stock photos in the Turbo Photo collection are taken by Mueller himself, “From years of photography,” he said. “But some are acquired from other photographers.”
The pricing of each Portland, Oregon-themed CD is a flat rate of $49.00 plus shipping. This fee grants one user use of the images in unlimited projects for an unlimited period of time. This style of pricing is termed, royalty-free, as no royalties are paid per use- only a flat fee upfront. This pricing differs from that of other stock photo companies that sell on a royalty-basis, which is a fee ‘per-use’ pricing structure.
Turbo Photo currently offers 64 stock photo CD titles in varied categories such as animals, backgrounds, food, nature, people, and travel. Resolution of the royalty-free images (JPEG photo files) range from 2560x1920 (14MB) to 3264x2448 (23MB) and are printable at 300dpi — ideal for small to medium size use in marketing materials.
